Account security
Keeping your account secure is both very important, and also the responsibility of individual members. The Warp Storm uses phpBB software which is, in theory, relatively secure. However an easy to guess password will not stop a third party from accessing your account. We recommend using strong passwords (upper and lower case, numbers and symbols) that are unique for both your forum account and associated email account. Services such as 1Password can help with this.
In the event that a member account is compromised, The Warp Storm makes no promises that the account can or will be recovered or returned to its rightful owner.

Using emoji in posts
While many might be posting from mobile devices with easy access to an emoji list, many will be using larger devices that might not have emoji support built in.
For those in the latter scenario, if you want to use emoji in your posts we have you covered!
Simply type : and an emoji pop-up will display.
Image

Typing what you want will allow you to select specific emoji.

You'll also notice that the above screenshots featured an E in the top right corner of the text box. Clicking this brings up a quick-select box, like so:
Image

Simple!

And for those of you that have native emoji support, adding them to your messages as normal works too! 👌

Embedding videos in posts
Embedding videos in your posts is incredibly simple - simply paste the link into your post, and the board will convert the link into an embedded video automagically!

Here are three link format examples showing video embedding, and how to stop your videos from being embedded when you don't want it to happen:

Video embed
Code: Select all
https://youtu.be/r-Mt7Tveca4 (OR) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-Mt7Tveca4

Video link
Code: Select all
[url]https://youtu.be/r-Mt7Tveca4[/url]
https://youtu.be/r-Mt7Tveca4

Video link, custom text
Code: Select all
[url=https://youtu.be/r-Mt7Tveca4]Your text here[/url]
Your text here

While YouTube is the most common video source, the board should be able to handle videos from most popular video hosting websites, such as Twitch, Vimeo and Twitter.

Uploading an avatar
Uploading an avatar at The Warp Storm is fairly simple - the board does some nifty things to turn almost any image into a suitable avatar.

Your image should be a .jpg or .png (transparency is supported!), no bigger than 5000x5000 pixels in size, and no larger than 6.5MB
This should cover you for images taken directly from most phones or cameras without having to reduce the filesize.

When you upload your image in the edit avatar section of the UCP the board will then work a little magic. It will resize your image so that it will fit the board's display sizes, it will compress your image so that it doesn't take forever to load, and it will square off your image so that it doesn't appear warped or distorted.

It's recommended to use an image that's at least vageuly square - on tall or wide images the cropping system will try to pick the most interesting point to focus on, but the process isn't perfect! If you're using a phone then cropping should be easy enough, but for those on larger devices it might be helpful to have a look at this section of the Guide on editing pictures.

Post headings
If you want to add a little flair to your posts then you might consider using post headings. There are two ways you can do this, detailed below.

We'll start with the simple method:

Your text here
[post-h1]Your text here[/post-h1]
This is a main heading, used for something like the title of your guide/tutorial or the first post in this topic. It has a width of 100% and large, uppercase text.

Your text here
[post-h2]Your text here[/post-h2]
This is a secondary heading, used for something like the sections of your guide/tutorial or the top of this post. It has a width of 80% and large, uppercase text.

Your text here
[post-h3]Your text here[/post-h3]
This is a tertiary heading, used for something like the sub-sections of your guide/tutorial. It has a width of 60% and uppercase text.

Keep in mind that on mobile screens there is less space to work with, so keeping your headings short is advised. Longer headings will get moved onto multiple lines, like so:
Image

But what if you want to customise your headings with specific icons, rather than the TWS logo? Thats the advanced method.

You're using similar tags, but you'll have to specify an icon from the list below, in this format (works for h1, h2 and h3):

[post-h3-icon=NAME]Your text here[/post-h3-icon]

If we replace NAME with dark_angels we get the following:
magic!
You just have to ensure that you use a correct icon name after the = and both tags have the -icon that's not present in the simple method.

So, onto the icons! If there is something you would like to see added (including custom army icons!) please let us know. Not all the icons are perfect, but changes and additions are already planned.

Custom in-post icons
The Warp Storm has a custom BBCode tag that allows you to add icons to your posts that display in-line with your text. It functions very similarly to the [fa] tag explained here, but rather than using the FontAwesome library it uses one that we have control over.

To display an icon you use the [tws] tag, like so:

[tws]dark_angels[/tws] -

These icons can be added to header tags, or modified using BBCode, shown below.

[post-h3]dark [tws]dark_angels[/tws] angels[/post-h3]
dark angels

[size=200][color=red]blood [tws]blood_angels[/tws] angels[/color][/size]
blood angels

So, onto the icons! If there is something you would like to see added (including custom army icons!) please let us know. Not all the icons are perfect, but more changes and additions are planned.

Magic quoting
Quoting posts on a message board wouldn't normally need a guide entry to explain it, but here at The Warp Storm we some rather snazzy functions for quoting.

Quoting a whole post
If you simply want to quote a post in its entirety then you can use the ' Reply with quote' button at the top right of a post (in the for mobile users), which will move you to the reply page with your quote inserted. This is the 'standard' function of the quote button that you'll already be familiar with. Below the reply area you will also see other posts from the page you're currently viewing - hitting their quote button will add that quote to your reply.

Quoting a post partially
If however you wish to quote a select portion of a post (or posts) then we have a little magic to show you. When you highlight a portion of a post you will see a little pop-up offering you quote options:

Image

The ' Reply' option will add your current selection to a quote in the Quick Reply box at the bottom of the topic. You can use this more than once to quote several sections from the same post, or sections from multiple posts.

The ' Save quote' option does just that - it saves your quote to utilise later! Upon clicking it you'll find a new little box hovering in the bottom right of the page.

Image

If you open this box you'll be presented with all of your saved quotes - from here you can add insert the quotes into the currently active reply/quick reply box.
(Note that quotes will not move between devices or browsers, and will disappear if your cache gets cleared. For this reason we suggest that you don't hold onto your quotes for too long or they might run off!)

Image

You can even mark several quotes to add them to your post simultaneously!

Image

Your saved quotes don't have to be used in the topic they came from, either. The little quote box will sit in the bottom right hand corner and follow you around all over the board, so that you can place your quotes in different topics or forums, or even into private messages! If you want to use this function to save a whole post (or posts) for later, just highlight the whole post!
